HOTARUBI NO MORI E MOVIE REVIEW
-YUKI MIDORIKAWA
(AUGUST 19 2019)
Have you ever wondered if its possible for spirits, fairies, creature we don't know of to fall in love with human? And with human doing the same thing? This movie starts with Hotaru getting lost in the forest one summer vacation day on his uncle's house. There he met with Gin, neither a full pledge human or a spirit, helping her to find the way out and thus started their friendship. As their bond grows stronger, the want to know more and the need for physical affection arise. However, that is the sad part of this movie. Gin can't be touch by human. If so, he will perish forever. What I like about this movie is that their emotions are so pure, the way they built the relation they have to take time, patience and slow learning from each other. It is a very short movie but it will leave a mark.
There are only two main characters on the movie which is Hotaru and Gin. Hotaru, a girl who's clumsy and always happy, a simple, caring and lovely one. And Gin, who have that aura of being mysterious but at the same time, kind. Side note, I really love his voice. In such a short span of time, I mean the movie itself, both of their characters show changes. Changes in a romance perspective. They learn how to love each other and the agitation they felt wanting to touch one another is so heartbreaking. The feelings they have, the longingness and the huge block of truth that slap them on the face is real hard. But I still love the way both of them accept it, and smile the way through.
I also love the fact that it did not became a fairytale like ending where they live happily ever after. Sometimes, ending like this is a must. To make us realize that life is life. Its hard, things will not always go your way. All you need to do is accept it to make you stronger, move forward and treasure everything along the way.
This kind of story will want you to have more. Though you know that it really has ended, you will want more of their love story and that's what hurts. I'm so amazed whenever I get to see story like this. Short but meaningful. Short but there really is a story to tell, a worth one. It is really captivating and there's something on the movie that will make you love it.
